As we gather for the Lincoln Day Dinner in Davis County, we honor the legacy of Abraham Lincoln, a leader who defended constitutional government at the most fragile moment in our nation’s history.
But this dinner is more than tradition. It is a reminder that our republic survives only when the public trusts the process by which leaders are chosen.
In 1864, in the middle of the Civil War, Lincoln allowed a national election to proceed even though his own reelection was uncertain. He understood that suspending elections would damage the republic more than losing one.
That principle still applies today.
As someone with more than 20 years in finance, auditing, and regulatory compliance, I’ve built my career on strengthening systems through documented safeguards, transparency, and accountability.
Elections deserve the same discipline and integrity through:
Clear procedures
Strong chain-of-custody controls
Equal application of the law
Transparent communication
Professional administration
The role of government is to administer the law transparently, faithfully and consistently.
If entrusted with serving, my commitment is simple:
Professionalism
Transparency
Accountability
That is how trust is built and that is why Lincoln’s example still matters.
