Davis County Caucus Night – March 17, 2026

Tomorrow night, neighbors across Davis County will gather for Caucus Night, one of the most important grassroots traditions in our republic.

While it may not receive the same attention as Election Day, Caucus Night is where self-government begins at the neighborhood level.

Caucus Night is a meeting of neighbors within the same voting precinct. Citizens come together to meet one another, discuss the issues affecting their communities, and elect delegates who will represent their precinct. Those delegates will attend the County Convention and vote for candidates who will represent the party in upcoming elections.

The Founders believed the strength of our republic depended on local participation.

Thomas Jefferson described this idea through what he called “ward republics,” small local units where citizens could directly participate in governing themselves. Jefferson wrote:

“These wards, called townships in New England, are the vital principle of their governments… were I to assign to them the cause of the vigor given to their republics, it would be this.”

John Adams echoed the same principle when he wrote:

“Liberty cannot be preserved without a general knowledge among the people.”

Caucus Night reflects these founding principles: neighbors gathering together to participate in self-government.

Don't wait for tomorrow, register now:

It took me about two minutes to register.
